Professora: Señorita McCullough

Objective: In this course, you will develop basic reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in Spanish. You will also learn about Hispanic culture and everyday life in Spanish-speaking countries.
Materials:
Course Description and Structure
*In this course, you will be introduced to some of the basics of the Spanish language and Hispanic culture. You will learn new concepts and vocabulary on a daily basis. It is important that you take great notes. It is necessary for you to memorize and practice using the vocabulary, phrases, and grammar to be able to keep up. Lessons and concepts will build on each other. What you learn in the first week of school will still be used in the last week of school.
*In class, we will do many different activities to learn and practice! You will listen to native speakers, chat with your classmates, read short stories and advertisements, and write questions and answers to name a few. You will do a variety of projects, create artifacts and play games to build your skills and knowledge of not only the language, but the culture as well.
Assessment and Grades
Assessments will be based on (in no order of importance): in-class assignments, tests and quizzes, individual and group projects, homework, and class participation. The grading scale in the student handbook will be used. Grades will also be posted online. You are encouraged to check your grades so you are aware of how you are doing in the class.
Homework Policy
*Homework should be done neatly and handed in on time. You will mostly likely have homework every night. As I stated before, everything new that you learn in a foreign language builds on what you learned the day before. If you do not complete homework assignments, you will quickly fall behind.
*Late work will not be accepted. Be sure to keep track of assignments and projects and their due dates in your planner. Don’t leave your work at home! If it is not with you, it does not count.
*If you do not have a written homework assignment, you should be memorizing and studying vocabulary daily. Just like mastering anything else, learning a foreign language requires a lot of practice!
*Sign up for the remind site and you will get texts or emails reminding you of upcoming assignments, projects, and quizzes. Go to www.remind.com Our class code is k237a2.
Extra Credit
NO extra credit will be given ever, under any circumstances. There are plenty of opportunities for you to earn a good grade. If you study and keep up with your work, you will never need extra credit.
Cheating
No cheating in any form will be tolerated and will result in an automatic F for all parties involved. This means if you allow someone else to copy your work, you will be in trouble as well.
Make-up Work
If you are absent, it is your responsibility to see me when you return. This is especially important if you miss a test or quiz. You will have one day for every day you were absent to complete the work (for more information see the student handbook).
Tardiness
It is important to be on time. Coming in after the bell rings is disruptive and wastes class time.
Cell Phones
Cell phones are not to be used unless we are using them for an activity in class. Repeatedly taking yours out during class will lead to it being taken away until the end of the class period.

The quizlet site/ app is a great way to study Spanish. Quizlet offers online flashcards, games, and has a speaking feature that allows you an easy way to practice Spanish on the go. Use https://quizlet.com/class/679146/
